The End of the Story

Whenever I talk about Jesus, the World, and Redemption, I am always careful to mention the end of the story.

I think that every story needs an ending.

If you have ever read Harry Potter, then you know what it would be like to live the rest of your life after only reading the first six books.

If you watch Lost – You are dying for season six to tell you what finally happens, and fill in all the holes that you never quite understood.

We live in a great story.  We are actually participating in this story – making up the lines as we go along.  But no matter what we do or how well our stories play out, the end of the story has already been written.

It’s a fundamental part of being a Christian. We can have hope because everything that has ever gone wrong in the world is going to be redeemed.  Every lost puppy, every hurt toe – every tear – will be wiped away.

Some might say this is a crutch for weak minded people who haven’t the self respect and energy to see to their own lives properly.

Maybe so.  I don’t know about you, but I am weak.  Most mornings I don’t want to get out of bed and most days there is a reason I should have stayed.

But I do get out of bed, because I know that the story isn’t up to me.  Jesus is going to take back his kingdom completely, and when he does I can finally rest.
